QLD: Emerency grant to Endeavour Foundation

BRISBANE, April 8 AAP - The Queensland Government today promised a $1.2 million rescue
package for the cash strapped Endeavour Foundation.

Premier Peter Beattie said the extra funds were in addition to the $1.3 million allocated
in December.

He said the emergency funding would help the foundation continue to provide assistance
to disabled people.

It would also be used to help workers retrenched by the charity, he said.

"It is Queensland's oldest and largest non-government organisation specialising in
care for Queenslanders with a disability," Mr Beattie said in a joint statement.

The 51-year-old Endeavour Foundation provided about a half the state's accommodation
for the disabled.

Queensland Disability Services Minister Judy Spence said the emergency funds should
reassure thousands of people who relied on the foundation.
